CAIHS Monday Morning Message

Week of 06/06/2022

Student of the Month

We had a very long list of nominees for the Month of May, and many teachers wrote in about students. However, this student had multiple teachers comment about what a great addition to the Intermediate High School he is. Congratulations to Josh Shoemaker! Here is what our teachers had to say: I am nominate Josh Shoemaker. He is a hard worker who is consistently on task, completes his work, and participates in class. He is respectful and kind to all his peers and staff members. He is a pleasure to have in class. Josh was also a huge help to yearbook this year!! He was yearbook president. Josh Shoemaker is in my class this year, and I also had him virtually last year. He is a student who takes pride in his work. He has many friends and is well liked by all. He always has a smile as he walks into class. He deserves to be a Student of the Month! Josh Shoemaker is one of the most consistent and hardworking students that I have ever met, no matter what drama occurs in the classroom or hallway, he will work hard and complete assignments on time. Josh is also a kind, polite and non-judgmental young man. Although, he has dealt with some drama this year, he has never lost his spirit and continues to shine his light bright at our school. He is an accomplished artist that also is a member of the yearbook community. Congratulation, Josh, we are very proud of you!

Summer Reading

Summer Reading Info For Students Entering Grades 6-12

The district is requiring all students entering grades 6-12 to complete a required summer reading assignment. Each student is being asked to read one book from their grade-specific list and complete a follow up activity (one-pager in grades 6-8, writing prompt in grades 9-12). The assignment will be graded.

In grades 6-8, reading lists align with the first thematic unit in each grade level to help build background knowledge and support comprehension. Students in grades 9-12 will be able to choose a title from the Reading Olympics High School Book List 2022. Students will be given the summer reading assignment in class during the week of 5/23. E-book and/or audio versions of several of the texts will be available for free via Mackin Library.

A hard copy of the assignment will be given to each student, posted to their English teacher's CANVAS page, and posted to the district website (see Educational Services tab).

The district is also sponsoring a social media campaign, #CASDLovesToRead22. The district is asking its students to show off the books that they love all summer long. For additional information, see the attached flyer.

The district is also challenging every K-8 student to meet their weekly unit target on Lexia at least 6 times over the summer to help maintain and/or improve reading skills. Students that meet this challenge will receive a special reward when they return to school in the fall. For additional information, see the attached flyer.
